Process Simulation Resources:

Sargon Engineering has developed a suite of prepared and tested sub-models for both Metsim and SysCAD. The sub-models can be incorporated into new models to reduce model development time. Examples include:

  • Cooling water system
  • Flocculant make-up system
  • Multiple effect evaporation
  • Steam-methane reformer
  • Pressure oxidation autoclave (with compartment flash cooling if required)
  • Deaeration of boiler feed water
  • Desalination (membrane or thermal)
  • Limestone crushing and grinding
  • Gas turbine
  • Steam turbine
  • Reciprocating gas engine
  • Waste heat boiler & HRSG
  • Sulphide concentrate roasters (multiple hearth and fluid bed)

Capital Cost Estimating:

Sargon Engineering has developed a database of equipment costs. This database is informed by process industry indexes, thus ensuring all cost data is kept up to date. Indexing is improved by check estimates from industry. The database is supplemented by purchase of cost datasets from recognised providers such as CostMine and Rawlinsons. Consistency checks, such as cost per unit weight, are applied. The installed cost of the equipment is estimated taking account of local labour rates and productivity.

The end-of-job capital cost estimate is arrived at by judicious application of factors. Typically a conceptual cost estimate will have an accuracy of +/- 30%

Sargon Engineering conceptual cost estimates are supported by PFDs, mass balance tables, design criteria, conceptual layout, equipment list and documented preliminary equipment sizing calculations.

Operating Cost Estimating:

Sargon Engineering maintain a database of reagent costs and utility costs. Quotes are obtained from suppliers as required. Reagent and utility consumptions are supported by a mass balance which estimates reagent consumptions, raw water consumption and gas consumption. Power consumption is estimated from preliminary drive sizings.

Labour costs are estimated from a documented organisation chart. Client input is sought for organisational make-up and labour rates.

Maintenance costs are estimated by judicious use of factors based on direct costs of the installed plant.

Transport costs are based on estimated tonne-kilometer rates. Current shipping costs are estimated from market reports for shipping.

A separate preliminary estimate is made of the unit cost of ammortisation-depreciation. This provides an appreciation for the relative weight of operating to capital costs.

Sargon Engineering uses Primavera P6 as a project scheduling tool. A project schedule can be worked on interactively with client engineers via Netmeeting or Skype. Sargon Engineering has the project development experience to produce a realistic, logically consistent plan for all phases of project implementation. Existing schedules from P3, P3E, Suretrack or MS Project can readily be imported and updated.

Sargon Engineering can provide a customised cost control database for small to medium projects. The database is implemented using Filemaker 10 software.

Sargon Engineering can offer clients both 2D and 3D design products, including:

  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Block flow diagrams
  • Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Plant layouts
  • Mechanical general arrangement drawings
  • Mechanical detail drawings
  • Materials handling system arrangement drawings
  • Piping general arrangement drawings
  • Piping detail drawings
  • Piping isometrics
  • Adobe 3D pdfs

Sargon Engineering licences the following software to undertake design work:

  • Bentley Microstation V8i
  • AutoCAD LT 2009
  • Scan2CAD Professional (as a raster to vector engine)
  • Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Professional Extended

Sargon Engineering use 3D pdfs to capture and present three-dimensional design work. This provides clients with an interactive format whereby they can review and scrutinise all design work, with the benefit of level and display controls.
